Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes long.
-
It is best practice for new clients to have routine, weekly, sessions during the initial phase of treatment. This allows for rapport building, and for the therapist to gain a good understanding of a client’s needs. Most clients then often transition to a biweekly cadence. If a client is of higher need, with complex concerns, they may benefit from meeting with their therapist weekly for a longer period of time. Session frequency is ultimately determined by client need.
-
The overall duration of treatment is completely determined by a client’s presenting needs. Some clients may make sufficient progress towards goals in 10-12 sessions, while others require longer term support based on higher need and complex challenges. Duration of treatment is something that is discussed between client and therapist throughout the duration of treatment.
-
In the first few sessions you will tell your story, explain concerns, determine goodness of fit between yourself and therapist, discuss goals and treatment plan, and build rapport.
After the first few sessions, then active engagement of the treatment goals and plan begins. This varies dependent upon the client’s presenting concerns.
In these sessions you will work toward gaining insights and self awareness, learning skills, expressing emotions in healthy ways, and more.
